My Style

Jane runs Cambridge Women, a new website packed with life's essentials for women working and living in and around Cambridge

My style is casual funky eclectic which can involve unusual mixes of colours and patterns. I enjoy fashion but tend to adapt it, mixing charity purchases with designer items. Designers I like are Issy Miyake, Ronit Zilkha, Vivienne Westwood and St Martins.

My fave item of clothing at the moment is a Be You K denim skirt. Fave accessory is my Bo Bangles heart necklace. I designed Bo's website and have been paid in jewellery - it's great because her stuff is so original.

I'm not sure if I can get my clothes into a capsule but I am definitely no longer a hoarder. I spent many years filling rooms with clothes from junk shops, car boot sales and market stalls. I also used to buy swathes of fabric and create my own crazy gothic costumes. No if I haven't worn anything for a year, it has to leave the premises.

When I'm out to buy something new to wear I head first for charity shops. Cult, Rhoda (when I am in North London), Republic, Karen Millen and Mexx. I also hate to admit this but I do have a peek in M&S. Occasionally you can pick up a real gem there - but you need to be discerning.

Dune have some lovely shoes. But I have all the footwear I need currently so I have to avoid shoe shops at the moment. The bottom line for me is that no matter how cool the shoes look they must be comfortable.

My most useful item of clothing is a little red dress I bought in a charity shop for £3. I can also wear it over trousers which makes it really versatile. I've had a lot of compliments on that dress.

I know exactly what I want when I visit the hairdressers, my hair is very find - and a bright colour. I have been red for the past 18 months. Before that it was bleached white. I am currently contemplating another dose of extensions.

Fave beauty product is my Russian Red Mac lipstick which I never the leave the house without wearing. Also love Clinique Moisture Surge Extra (great for when you're feeling tired and dehydrated).

My latest best beauty find is Anne Marie Borlind Natu Royale Biolifting cream. This really did seem to get rid of those little lines that start to appear in your 40s. Also just started using Mark Hill Defining Shine Wax. Run it through your hair and you're ready to go!

One special item of clothing that I could never throw away is a long trailing Ghost shift that I found in TK Maxx. Its length makes is rather impractical but it's great for lounging around the house in.

My fabulous bright pink Punky Fish rucksack goes everywhere with me and always contains my mobile phone, filofax, Mac lipstick, business cards and a notepad.

One terrible impulse buy was some black combat trousers with lots of bits of fabric hanging off them. They were in fashion a few years ago and really aimed at 12 year olds. I wore them once and realised I'd made a huge mistake.
