The City Wakes ...

the world's first tribute to the life and work of Syd Barrett

Syd BarrettQuite Great Communications is handling media and sponsorship for The City Wakes - the world's first official tribute to Pink Floyd founder and sixties icon Syd Barrett celebration's multi-faceted events are expected to generate considerable international interest.

Premiering in Syd's hometown of Cambridge , before hopefully transferring to London , The City Wakes is an ambitious insight into Syd's early life. Organised by arts and mental health charity Escape Artists the project will celebrate the creative mind of this fascinating figure who perhaps more than any other artist sowed the seeds of creative flowering that characterised the 60's underground psychedelic movement.

Quite Great will be heading up both a multi-media PR campaign and a sponsorship drive to support the series of exciting events which has the full support of Syd's friends and family.

The City Wakes will include an exhibition of Syd Barrett paintings (some never seen before) and memorabilia alongside original pieces from Pink Floyd's legendary designer Storm Thorgerson and archival photos from world-famous photographer Mick Rock. Other highlights will include an exciting new stage production featuring original re-workings of Syd's greatest songs with stunning lighting by one of the Floyd's original lighting designers - Peter Wynne Willson, a new biography produced after hours of new interviews with Syd's friends and family, special guided tours of the major Pink Floyd-related historic sites, music workshops and even a recreation of a 1960's ‘happening' by Syd's friends.

The City Wakes is a chance for Syd Barrett fans from all over the world to pay tribute to a very special talent,” says Quite Great Managing Director Pete Bassett. “Quite Great is based in Syd's home town of Cambridge and we're looking to use our experience of working on both high profile music projects and consumer and sponsorship campaigns to really gain this exciting project the coverage and recognition it deserves.”
