Keren Souza - Cheffins Pictures & Books Sale 10th July 2008

Keren Souza graduated from the Ravensbourne College of Art, Kent and has exhibited her prints, drawings, watercolours, and oils widely, both in London and

internationally. Her shows have attracted acclaim and sales which led to further Shows as far afield as Hong Kong . Her work references amongst others that of El Greco, Titian, Rembrandt, Goya, Matisse, Hilton, Sandra Blow and Guston. Keren is the daughter of the late Francis Newton Souza. Aware of her heritage she is able to forge new ground, speaking a new beguiling, but poignant language of our time. She is interested in abstracted figuration, in the co-existence of divinity within our physical planet. Her love of colour is evident,

hot, spicy or cool. A juxtaposition of the unexpected produces dramatic composition with a strong narrative, sometimes subliminal, sometimes overt, obvious and for the taking. Dreams and Journeys, moments seen and caught, sometimes struggling to emerge, revisited through drawings and paintings. Her art practice represents a visual diary, an autobiography of life's stations, journeys and dreams. Her pictures have a strong narrative. Keren works in a rapid sequence, very immediately, pulling and pushing themes, allowing them to develop and breathe, each station along the way valid with its own meaningful view.
